Documentaries Blood & Roses

The Blood and The Rose is a feature-length film documenting the events that took place in Mexico City in the early 1500s, shortly after Spain’s conquest of Mexico. The events included apparitions of the Virgin Mary to St. Juan Diego and the miraculous image that she left on his tilma, an outer garment worn during that time period.  The image still remains to this day.

The Blood and The Rose portrays how faith had established peace between the indigenous people of Mexico and the Spaniards who first arrived to challenge the religious practices of the native Aztec Indians. The main focus of the film is to illustrate the strength of faith in Mexico and how it spread throughout the Americas and the world.

The entire film will be produced in both Spanish and English. The Blood and The Rose is currently slated for a limited Mexican theatrical release and will air on television in Mexico during the last quarter of 2008, to coincide with 476th anniversary of the appearance of Mary’s image on the tilma of St. Juan Diego. The tilma can still be viewed at the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, Mexico.
